MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District (MPD) announced parts of the city will be a no-fly, no-drone, and no-sail zone for security during the Traslacion, the traditional procession of the image of Jesus Nazarene.

The MPD advised the public that the areas around the Quirino Grandstand and Quiapo Church would be no-fly, no-drone zones from Wednesday, Jan. 8, to Friday, Jan. 10.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) previously reiterated that the areas around the Quirino Grandstand, Quiapo Church, and the processional route were already within the “RP-P1” restricted airspace, where both lateral and vertical flying are banned.

Meanwhile, according to another public advisory from the MPD on Tuesday afternoon, Manila Bay — specifically, the area behind the Quirino Grandstand — has been a no-sail zone since Monday, Jan. 6. This measure will remain in effect until Friday, Jan. 10.

The MPD said the no-sail zone also extends to the Pasig River, particularly in the areas of Jones Bridge, MacArthur Bridge, Quezon Bridge, and Ayala Bridge, from Wednesday, Jan. 8, to Thursday, Jan. 9.

For its part, the Philippine Coast Guard earlier announced that it was declaring a no-sail zone within a 1-kilometer radius of the Quirino Grandstand for the religious festivities.

Furthermore, in a separate advisory, the MPD announced that a liquor ban will be in place within a 500-meter radius of the Quirino Grandstand and Quiapo Church from Wednesday, Jan. 8, to Friday, Jan. 10.

MPD Director Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay told reporters at a press conference with feast organizers last Friday that the city’s police were on “heightened alert” as part of security protocols for Nazareno 2025.
